THE HOAX IN AMITYVILLE: PART 3
Part 3

Drawing of house       I had first heard of the Amityville hoax back in high school around 1990 on an episode of Hard Copy. However, I never thought that anything on that type of a show could believed.

A short time later, I was in a bookstore and bought a copy of Loyd Auerbach's ESP, Hauntings, and Poltergeists: A Parapsychologist's Handbook. In his book, there is a chapter that gives a kind of general overview of how the hoax came about.

Movie house       Then, in the summer of 1996, I purchased a copy of a book that fully exposed the hoax. The book is The Amityville Horror Conspiracy by Stephen Kaplan, Ph.D., and Roxanne Salch Kaplan. This book is the one that fully opened my eyes to what I had read in the The Amityville Horror. If you are unable to find this book you can ask your local book store to order it from Belfry Books.

In my initial investigation, I decided to take the same approach that Dr. Kaplan did when Jay Anson's novel was first being published. I compared one of the early hardcover editions (1977 Large Print Edition) and one of the latest paperback editions (1979 Bantam Movie Edition).
